<¿µ¹®¹ø¿ª±â»ç>

Three in the afternoon. I visited the Craftworks taphouse, which is located in east-pangyo village surrounded with relaxed air. There are other shops at Seoul Namsan and Itaewon but I wanted to enjoy the laid-back atmosphere out of big city. Staffs were in ready to open the restaurant and prepare to greet customers. Charcoal colored pebbles brought me to step in the restaurant. Corn tortillas were freshly fried with making crispy sound in the kitchen. Daily special menu and ¡®ALL YOU CAN EAT Sunday Brunch¡¯ was written on the big-sized black board over the counter. In front of the counter, there were beer glasses and T-shirts for HALLA MOUNTAIN GOLDEN ALE, BÄEKDUSAN HEFEWEIZEN, NAMSAN PURE PILSNER which are named after mountains in Korea. Jamie and I stepped out to walk around the street and started interview.

¡°Without being fancy¡±

Manager Jamie pursued the casual american bistro which is without being fancy and ordinary american people like to go. This place could be the best place when you want to grasp some yummy food after finishing jogging with friends. Either,  to drink beer after work, in a word; afterwork destination. Before opening the Craftworks,  Jamie run the italian bistro, JFK, which named after Jamie¡¯s full name (Jamie F. Kembrey). Many of the dishes of JFK were reminiscent of Chef Jamie¡¯s childhood favorites and his mother¡¯s home-style cooking. However, people rarely came around, so he changed the concept July, 2013 to american style taphouse which invites guests to gather around and enjoy the simple pleasure of a craft beer and share plate. We serve not only share plate but salad, hamburger, pizza, and food for vegetarian. In addition, anybody who pay 15,000WON for the Sunday brunch could enjoy the various american daily food and coffee for an unlimited amount! ALL YOU CAN EAT brunch menu is only available at Craftworks Pangyo. Once you enter the restaurant, you will get the illusion of being in America.

"Why Korea, Why Pangyo"

I wondered why he chose the location in Korea, especially at east panygyo. Beginning of story was interesting. He had worked at the restaurant in Denver and Colorado for 10 years by stepping up from part-time job to manager. However, he seek more fun activities and many chances to make his life more dynamic. He said Korea provided many chance and benefit for native english teacher, so he came to Pyongchon,Gyeonggi-do and taught english to children. He thought Korea was very fascinating city and full with fun activities, so that he made his mind to start something new in Korea. Fortunately, He met Korean-American Stewart who is co-worker at Craftworks, and he gave Jamie lots of helpful information with same business idea. They went around Itaewon, Haebangchon, Garosugil for 4 months to find a perfect location, but they found building loyalty in Seoul was very expensive and seoul is too much busy city. When he came east-pangyo, the first impression was relaxed, and enough to open laid-back concept restaurant with wide open kitchen. East-pangyo was the right place and the best location for him! Thanks to the home-like atmosphere, Jamie could build the Craftworks as spacious and cozy place.

"Special KOREAN beer with real AMERICAN food¡°

You could find unique and extraordinary beers at the craftworks taphouse. HALLA MOUNTAIN GOLDEN ALE, BÄEKDUSAN HEFEWEIZEN, NAMSAN PURE PILSNER, and the others resemble mountains in Korea. Every beers are crafted in small batches in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province and delivered 2 times a week. Korean brewmaster put the features of each mountain into the beer recipe. HALLA MOUNTAIN GOLDEN ALE is a medium-bodied British-style ale with a light, golden colour. The malty influence leaves a slightly sweet finish with hints of caramel. NAMSAN PURE PILSNER, a light, easy-drinking premium lager with a satisfyingly spicy, crisp finish, will brings image of Seoul city. All the menus are developed and made by international staffs. Upstream salmon hamburger, which is unfamiliar to the korean people, was the great meal for the kitchen people when Jamie worked for the fish restaurant. Also, Disco stu fries, named after co-worker stewart, is the french fries with sunny-side-up which let customers have fun of eating. You cannot help falling in love with this when you see yellow yolk run down to the potatoes. After works or When you want to experience the small america in Korea, going to the Craftworks taphouse at Pangyo would be the good idea.
